Pedovex is an inhibitor of ADP-induced platelet aggregation acting by direct inhibition of adenosine diphosphate (ADP) binding to its receptor and of the subsequent ADP-mediated activation of the glycoprotein GPIIb/IIIa complex.
➢The advantage of Clopidogrel over aspirin is its selectivity of action.
➢By this mode of action it also inhibits the expression of GPIIb/llla receptors needed for the formation of fibrin bridges which link the platelets.
➢Unlike aspirin, Clopidogrel does not inhibit cyclooxygenase, which means there is no reduction in synthesis of prostaglandins which protect the Gl tract. Hence, the incidence of Gl side effects is reduced with clopidogrel compared with aspirin.
